Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026

This Act introduces a full ban on advertising and sponsorship for vapes, nicotine pouches and other nicotine products, online and offline, closing the gaps in today's rules. It became law in April 2026, with the advertising and sponsorship ban due to start on 1 June 2027. It is the single biggest change coming to nicotine advertising.

Official Name
Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026: smokefree generation and nicotine ad ban
Jurisdiction
United Kingdom
Category
Tobacco and Vapes

Does this apply to me?

The Act reaches further than any previous nicotine law, covering:

  • Vapes and e-cigarettes, including non-nicotine versions
  • Nicotine pouches and other nicotine products
  • Advertising and sponsorship across all media, online and offline

It also underpins the 'smokefree generation' policy, progressively raising the age at which tobacco can be sold. Enforcement sits with Trading Standards and the courts.

Key rules

The headline measures:

  • Full advertising ban on vapes, nicotine pouches and other nicotine products, online and offline.
  • Sponsorship ban connected to these products.
  • Smokefree generation — a rolling age restriction on tobacco sales.
  • A defence for public health campaigns, so official stop-smoking messaging isn't caught.

Common breaches

What brands will need to watch once the ban is in force:

  • Any paid promotion of vapes or nicotine pouches, in any channel.
  • Sponsorship and brand partnerships involving nicotine products.
  • Influencer and social content promoting these products.
